About this site
Privacy Sightline Planner is an independent, free project that turns a simple question — “how tall does a screen need to be to block that view?” — into an exact, geometric answer.
Who makes this
This site is built and maintained by Sebastián Pérez, an independent web developer based in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is a personal project, not a company or a shop: there is nothing to sell here and no product being promoted.
Why it exists
It started with an ordinary, real problem: working out how high a fence or screen would have to be to stop a neighbour’s upstairs window from looking straight onto a patio. Guessing wastes money — build too low and it does nothing; build too high and you pay for material and permits you never needed. The honest answer is pure geometry, so I built a tool that does that geometry properly and shows its work, then wrote guides that explain the reasoning behind each result.
How the calculations work
A line of sight is a straight line between a viewer’s eye and what they can see. A screen blocks the view only if it is tall enough to cross that line before it reaches what you want hidden. The planner draws those lines from every viewpoint you enter — windows, balconies, a standing neighbour — to every corner of the area you want private, then reports the minimum height, a recommended height with a safety margin, and where the screen should stand. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere. The guides explain the underlying formula in plain language.
What I stand behind
- Free and independent. The calculators are free to use, with no account required.
- Your data stays with you. Measurements and saved plans live only in your own browser.
- Honest results. The tool gives geometric estimates and says so plainly — it never claims to replace an on-site check or to tell you what local rules allow. See the disclaimer.
- Kept up to date. The calculators and guides are reviewed and improved over time.
